There's always been a huge slice of self-delusion connected to 'this religion.' It seems worse now than ever.

We Now See Hard Proof That God Does Not Guide This Religion
by metatron inonce upon a time, there was a small, controversial religion that got into trouble because of child sexual abuse.
there were lawsuits and nasty headlines and bad press and concerns about what other sort of sexual misdeeds might be covered up.. then, in a breathtaking moment of hubris, the apparent 'boss' of this religion gave a widely reported speech in which he revealed his obsession with homosexuals and young men wearing tight pants..
this is not "meat in due season".

Why don't parents of an abused child go straight to police, why go to an elder first??
by FeelingFree ini hope i don't come across as judgemental but having read a lot on the current child abuse cases and the different threads on here, i am left wondering why on earth a parent of an abuse victim would go to an elder with the problem first and not straight to police?.
as a parent myself i know that if anything like that happend to my child (this applies to when i was still an active jw as well as now) i would not hesitate in going to the authorities as soon as i found out, it wouldn't of crossed mine or my husbands mind to go to an elder.
maybe after we had reported it but definitely never as the first port of call.

Going to untrained elders first is stupid. Always go to the authorities first. Never seek advice in child care issues from an elder with a sixth grade education.
If the abuser was a Witness, the response afterward is, "there is an active criminal investigation. I cannot discuss this with you until it is concluded."
If the abuser is found guilty, the elders are in a bind. They can't ignore it even if they want. Take no nonsense from them. If they press you say, "I'm obligated to report this conversation to the investigating officers and to the prosecutor."

Juan, the site isn't mine. it belongs to the authors of A Separate Identity, a history of the Watch Tower's early years. I am a fan of their research and have scanned material from my own collection for them. I think their project is worth while. I want to keep it going.

i thought all the embarssing books were supposed to be thrown out?
by purrpurr ini had a look in the library last meeting and my hall still has all the bound volumes going right back to the beginning.
including studies in the scriptures.
i thought the order from on high was that these were to be destroyed or taken away?

We had a Circuit Overseer order us to remove the book Pator Russell's Sermons because it was published by the People's Pulpit Association, in his view an apostate organization. Someone should have taken a photograph of his face when he was shown that the current name of the People's Pulpid Association is Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, inc. The book is still in the KH library and he's long gone out of the Circuit Work.

new assembly experience... what do you reckon to this one?
by purrpurr inok so aparently there was this young girl who wanted to study with the jw's because she loved the bible so much.
she asked her fathers permission but he refused, after much nagging though he said she could have a study if she was prepared to have one of her fingers chopped off.
he thought the is would stop her but she was willing so he got a knife and cut off one of her fingers... a little while later she wanted to attend the meetings and he said no and again when nagged said she could attend meetings if she had another finger chopped off so she agreed and he chopped off a second finger.

All the current push is an updated version of the Millennial Dawn puzzles they left in hotels in the early 1900s.

A QUESTION FOR JW'S who say, "The brothers were overly zealous" about 1975
by Terry in"what was the actual significance of that year, then?".
if jw's were overly zealous, what was the exact amount of zeal encouraged by the wts for a non-event which took up.
over 7 years of every jw's time?.

One of my children wasn't supposed to start kindergarten because Moses was in the wilderness for 40 years and 40 years from 1914 was about to run out. It was a widely spread speculation among Witnesses. It's a form of insanity, I think.

i wish there was away to track the psych job during patterson and other major projects of what happened to all the "friends" that sold and got rid of their livelyhood then and where are they now.. did you ever sacrifce it all for a building project only to be left with nothing after your "spiritual high"?.

My wife and I lived in poverty for about seven years for the privilge of being shuffled from place to place to pioneer and help struggling congregations. It was a total waste. I finally woke to the futility and abuse and went back to teaching.
